Chapter President

Welcome!

Thank you for this opportunity to introduce you to the Seattle Chapter of The Girl Friends®, Inc.  Our National organization, The Girl Friends®, Inc. is one of the oldest social organizations of African American women in the U.S. Founded in 1927 in New York City, and incorporated in 1938 under the legal guidance of Thurgood Marshall, The Girl Friends Inc. now boasts 48 chapters coast to coast and over 1,800 members nationally.

While the organization's primary purpose remains to promote and foster friendship, we have expanded our mission to include charitable and cultural activities. Each chapter sets our agenda which consists of the performance of civic services in the community and support of a broad spectrum of causes.

In 1988, The Girl Friends, Inc. formed its foundation, The Girl Friends Fund, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization that provides scholarships to needy college students nationally. Our Seattle Chapter members are also members of The Seattle Girls Empowerment Foundation, which was formed in 2016. We have awarded several local students with scholarships from both organizations.

GF Cynthia Andrews, President
Seattle Chapter of The Girl Friends, Inc.
